Why Hire Dr. Angela who is a Psychologist and MBA?
When you are looking for help with an issue, you may be confused about what services to seek; therapy or coaching. The most recently developed of the helping services is coaching. It is such a new service that there are no minimum requirements for providers and no licensing laws developed. Anyone can call themselves a coach or consultant.
The letters after a coach’s name have no legal definition and may vary depending on the programs he/she has attended. It may be more beneficial to find a licensed mental health professionalwho provides coaching services when you are searching for a coach. The process of coaching can be very useful and it is a service that has no stigma attached. Coaching is about setting and achieving goals with the assistance of a person who asks you helpful and focused questions. Your coach’s emphasis is on your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges related to the goals you have set.
At Kenzslowe Consulting LLC, we define coaching as helping people achieve targeted goals with specific outcomes and to overcome environmental or internal obstacles that prevent them from reaching his or her potential.
With executive coaching, the focus is primarily on how to function better in business. Some goals may include increasing motivation, enhancing communication skills, and developing better work habits.
In a coaching role, Dr. Angela uses her Doctoral Level Behavioral Science expertise, her Master of Business Administration education, college level business teaching and corporate and entrepreneurial experience.
Coaching services with Kenzslowe Consulting LLC are based in science and is more strategic, more specific, and time-limited compared to working with those not trained as behavioral scientists. At the beginning of a coaching relationship, we will work with you to set goals, the number of sessions, and time limit.
Limitations of Coaching
In certain cases, a person may begin coaching and then display a variety of yellow, orange, and red flags that indicate the individual may need more than coaching. A good coach will then refer that person for the proper level of care. In those cases, we are open to working with coaches and consultants as a resource to their clients with the therapeutic process, then will refer the person back to the coach or consultant to continue coaching.
If we are initially working with you as a Coach or Consultant and we agree that therapy would be helpful, Dr. Angela will refer you to a another licensed mental health professional for therapy so that we may continue in our coaching relationship.
Some warning signs that coaching is not working:
The individual starts to reveal signs and symptoms of depression and anxiety that prevent her or him from making progress on specific assignments or goals.
The individual spends more time on expressing negative feelings during the coaching session, so that the focus is more on problems rather than solutions or paths to success.
The individual refuses to discuss certain issues in the coaching session, such as an internal lack of motivation or triggers that distract from reaching goals.
Fear, shame, or embarrassment prevent the individual from moving forward with targeted goals.
In these situations, our suggestion will be to engage in psychotherapy services to deal with underlying emotional and behavioral issues that are interfering with productivity, goals, and fulfillment.
Consulting is the service to seek to answer a specific problem using the expert knowledge of a professional. A consultant has specialized knowledge and expertise on the process or the problem that is of interest to you. Often a consultation will be a short-term engagement on one specific topic. Consultants work with individuals, families, groups and organizations. Occasionally teaching or training will be part of the engagement.
